Recent Red Bull signee and LA rapper/singer/producer BLXST teams up with Compton-MC 1TakeJay to create their first collaboration “Slid & Side”, dropping a behind the scenes video which takes the viewer into the process of creating the classic West-Coast summertime-jam.
BLXST’s talents as a producer shine as he throws together the bouncy-instrumental in five minutes, showing exactly how he builds his beats around the central melody and bass before finally “taking your back out” when he adds the booming kicks. With so much interest in the deconstruction of beats retrospectively, it’s refreshing to watch the process actually happen live as it does with BLXST and 1TakeJay when they begin trying out their melodies and verses over the beat and immediately realize they have an actual hit on their hands.
The two LA-artist’s opposing styles mix perfectly on “Slid & Side” as BLXST’s effortless melodic skills hold down the hook while 1TakeJay’s brash, punchy flow adds colorful lyrics to the verses. Hopefully, these two will collaborate again soon, and Red Bull keeps dropping these video gems.
