Standout track “Dragonball Durag” from Thundercat’s 2020 album It Is What It Is found its way into the hands of Smino and Guapdad 4000 for one of the most fitting and fire remixes of 2020. Both artists bring their individual style to the mic on a beat and sound that Thundercat established as a smash hit of the summer. Smino’s cadence and flow fits Thundercat’s funky bass and serenading falsetto like a glove. It may not be a typical rap beat, but Smino molds his own unique sound to it nonetheless, as he is no stranger to experimental beats. He chooses to use voice effects in the background to create a conversational piece within the song, just one slight creative decision that takes his work to the next level. Guapdad 4000, although new on the rap scene, has made the right moves to blow up through his features with Denzel Curry, Deante’ Hitchcock, Peter $un, and now this new collab with artists with massive followings like Smino and Thundercat. The hype is not to be ignored, as he can be one of the best in the game in a short amount of time. Not only is he stepping up to the plate with some of the industry’s finest, but he is crushing every verse out of the park. Guapdad 4000 brings an insane flow and mind-blowing clever lyrics to the track to add an extra layer to what would’ve been an already fire remix. “I feel fire I feel mythical I’m fly I’m a durag dragon/ that’s why I showed up to the Grammy’s with my durag draggin’” being just one example of how hard Guapdad 4000 comes on the mic in this track. With immaculate features and super saiyan vibes, the remix of “Dragonball Durag” should easily be one of the top tracks of the month and is a must have on any playlist.
