Alvvays Goes To The "Pharmacist" With New Single

Written by: David Williams

In the words of Rose from Titanic “It’s been 84 years” since Alvvays has last released an album, ok maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but the feeling remains the same with fans patiently waiting for the indie rock darlings to bring forth new music. Through reasons out of the band’s control from the pandemic— a basement flood almost ruining all of their equipment, to some maniac breaking into frontwoman Molly Rankin’s apartment pilfering a recorder full of demos—the group has been on stop-and-start status since their sophomore album Antisocialites. But, the good news is finally here! So alert every man, woman, and child, because the wait is now over with the Toronto quintet debuting their new single “Pharmacist” while also announcing the new record Blue Rev which will be released via Polyvinyl on October 7th.

The new single keeps the group at their core roots starting with straightforward synths, before going into the dream-poppy sound the band is most known for. This is like freshly baked macaroni and cheese at the dinner table on Thanksgiving; the perfect piece of sonic comfort food for the indie music community. The track listing was also premiered making Blue Rev the longest record to date from the Alvvays clocking in at 14 songs. “Pharmacist” is just the appetizer being delivered to the table with the entrée coming in the fall the wait is finally over.
